Yay, CFDA!
It's basically the Academy Awards for the fashion set.
The CFDA Fashion Awards -- hosted by T-Mobile Sidekick and underwritten by Swarovski -- was held last night at the New York Public Library in the hustling, bustling city of the Big Apple, with all the requisite glamour, Serge Normant-slash-Oscar Blandi coiffures, fashion crowd and haute couture.
For the first time ever, two (well, three) designers snagged the CFDA Womenswear Designer of the Year: Oscar de la Renta and Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler. Oscar, so I hear, looked a bit surprised to be sharing the award but, hey, there's a first time for everything, no?
The CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year went to Ralph Lauren, who also received the first-ever American Fashion Legend Award from presenter Oprah Winfrey. Derek Lam accepted the CFDA Accessory Designer of the Year award. And I was beyond excited to learn that Loeffler Randall -- congrats to Jessie Randall, who is expecting and though she looks ready to pop, appears glowingly happy! And why not, with her shiny CFDA statue...
I'd go through the rest of the recipients, but you can peruse the list on today's Fashion Week Daily.
I always wonder at these fashion events just how much money is wasted on food, because surely the duck foie grass and lemon-rosemary seabass sprinkled in truffles are pushed around plates to feign the appearance of being consumed.
But I bet the champagne almost always runs out and the outside patio is filled clouds of cigarette smoke.
That darn model's diet.
I'm Lovin' it: This frock by Phillip Lim 3.1. Makes an ethereally beautiful wedding gown, not that I'm looking or anything.
I'm Over it: No love for me and the Holt Renfrew gala opening tonight. Boo hoo. But I am going for a catch up dinner 'n' drinks session with my girlfriend Phyll C. at Section 3 in Yaletown anyway.
Book of the Day: Streetwear: The Insider's Guide by cool cat Steven Vogel. It's pretty much a go-to source for anything streetwear-related, from designers to brands to stores to websites -- and all coming from a pretty. hip-to-the-street fella. Unfortunately, it's only available through Amazon UK till this coming fall, when it hits our shores.
