Sorronda From Down Unda
Australia is amazing for so many reasons: kangaroos, Hugh Jackman, my high-flying Sydney friends (whom I miss dearly!), the words "dodgy" and "mate", The Crocodile Hunter, Kylie Minogue, vegemite (ok, not really so much this one), wallabees, Sass & Bide and now clothing label Gail Sorronda.
Gail Reid, the twenty five-year old girl wonder designer behind the label, spent the past three years developing her line and stacking her design cred. Reid's breakout moment happened at an Australian Fashion Week, where she scored the chance to show her wares, swill champagne with Oz fashion insiders and dominate with her Gail Sorronda signature black and white color palette. Each of her collections has a distinct theme and name -- Spring/Summer '08 is dubbed "Birds of Prey", while older ones have been monikered "Riders On The Storm", "The Velvet Hour" and "Angel At My Table". I love, love, love the shots on the website as well -- all high-fashion in black and white.
Sadly, the closest boutiques carrying Gail Sorronda are on Robertson Boulevard, Third Street, Abbott Kinney and Sunset Boulevard in La-La Land. But maybe I can get my girl Alice -- who is the Marni specialist at the soon-to-be-opened, revamped Holt Renfrew store in Vancouver -- to talk to her superiors and get this Down Under label in the new Design Lab section.
And in true Aussie speak: I heart Gail Sorronda heaps and heaps.
I'm Lovin' it: All my fantastically fun, funny and fierce friends who came out this weekend to help me blow out my candles on both Friday and Saturday nights. Thanks for the memories, guys -- or at least the memories I can remember.
I'm Over it: I ate too many chips yesterday during my Sunday recuperation watching the CSI marathon at Stephanucci's place. Oh, and I somehow got a pinched nerve on Saturday night. From what, I wouldn't be able to tell you, but all I do know is I can't wear heels for the next couple days. I tried yesterday and failed miserably.

The demise of catty, NYC socialite site Socialite Rank! After a year of speculating which socialite mole ran the site, New York Magazine finally got the scoop on its founders, fellow blueblood circuit go-ers and Russian sibs Valentine and Olga Rei. The NY Mag article chronicling both the site and the war beteen super-popular PYT Tinsley Mortimer and hot newbie Olivia Palermo is gossipy entertainment at its best.
Online Radio Station of the Day: Oh, how I love discovering totally mind-blowing free online radio stations. The Bassment is my most recent auditory treasure chest -- I'm currently head-bobbing to Blackalicious' Rock The Spot, by far one of my favorite hip-hop jams of all times and one I haven't heard in a looong time. "One time fo' the funky rhyme I say, two times for the beat and for my DJ..."
