End of a Blogspot Era.

In August 2005, I started a little blog called Confessions of a Fashion Fanatic in my bedroom in California.

I did it for the love of the written word and the want to share with others all the things I that gave me life: fashion, art, design, music, beauty, photography, friends and family anecdotes, thoughts, quotes and random musings.

Six and a half years later, I can truly say it's been an amazing ride, living here on Blogger.com.

But life goes on, people change and, well, technology moves forward.

So thank you, loyal readers, for all your years dedicated to Confessions of a Fashion—you're the reason this blog has been around for as long as it has been.

Thank you thank you from the bottom of my heart but, alas, COAFF must move on, too.

Besos,
Haute Hippie

JUST KIDDING!!!

COAFF has moved on, yes. But you can now visit me on my new Tumblr account.

It's still a work in progress, but it was definitely time for me to shed my old Blogspot skin and grow into a new Tumblr one, where options are more a-plenty. Guess I'm all growns up now. So update your "Favorites" tabs and RSS feeds, everyone!

And if there are moments when you miss the old days, I'll still keep Confessions of a Fashion Fanatic around on the web.

Even for a Haute Hippie like me, some things are just too hard to let go.

Besos for real this time,
Haute Hippie (aka. May Globus)

Full Quotient.

My insanely creative pal Melo is shooting for a new Elle.com site on local street style. His first shots go up this February. Yay!

In the meantime, check out his already existing street style blog, Style Quotient.

And check out his girl Suns' cute site Partly Sunny, too, which is about fashion, lifestyle and et al.

Nothing like giving your friends a little Tuesday shout out!

Besos,
Haute Hippie

J'adore! It's Dior Couture SS '11.

There were a lot of big, big, big shoulders and tons of volume at the Spring '11 Christian Dior couture show in Paris.

As most couture (and John Galliano) is, the theatrics were plenty—and so were the pieces to covet.

I particularly liked this caped cropped jacket, which was tres chic with the complementary gloves, gradient color and skinny skirt.

Go, Galliano.

I'm Lovin' it: The Coveted. It's The Selby for the sartorial.

I'm Over it: A mediocre start to Gossip Girl, Season Five.

Track of the Day: I love you, Hype Machine! Especially for putting the new Destroyer album Kaputt up for free streaming.

Breakbot on the Black and Whites.

I know, I know. So I talk about this Breakbot track quite a bit.

But it was the one song last year that just made me happy all the time.

This evening, while doing my Sunday evening web reads and video clip watching, I came across a young fellow on YouTube named cruzo67.

He appears to do quite a few piano covers, mostly of artists you don't normally associate with piano covers, like the aforementioned Breakbot, along with other Ed Banger artists, Duck Sauce, Deadmau5, Ratatat, Cypress Hill, The Bloody Beetroots, Daft Punk and more.

Obviously the boy is a master with the ear, as in listening to music and being able to translate it to the keys—it's not like Deadmau5 and Ed Banger sell sheet music of their electro tracks.

Check out his piano version of 'Baby I'm Yours':

And here's the original again:

Need to learn to play this!

Guess my mom knew the pain I felt suffering through Royal Convservatory piano classes in my childhood would pay off some day.

Here's one more for the road. His classic piano take of Daft Punk's 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger':

Happy Friday! Breakbots and Brightsides.

Last night, I was somehow "coerced" into making a pit stop for one drink at one of the city's most notorious wateringholes.

This place always has a line up, always has the smell of stale beer in the decades old carpet and always has a live band and DJ trading off between classics and Top 40, with some random awesome tracks tossed in. You're always loathe to go here, but when you leave, you can't believe how much fun you just had.

One libation turned into a few, which turned into a mini dance party. For two of us anyway, near the bar and not anywhere near the dance floor.

Here's a small cross section of the last few songs—some of my very faves, too!—that played (and that him and I sang out loud to, with no shame):

We were about to call it a night, when the strains of the song below came on. So, naturally, we stayed for one more epic sing-a-long:

And that was only Thursday night.

On that note, Happy Friday!

Besos,
Haute Hippie

Beginnings.

"We are new every day".

Yes.

Yes, we are.

Sea of Seychelles.

I spent two hours yesterday at the KNOW?SHOW with my team at cut & SHOW, saying hello to industry pals and checking out what the brands, reps and distribution companies had for Fall 2011.

My girl Mir owns an agency called Brunette Showroom, representing brands like Sienna Ray hangbags, Lisbeth Jewelry (her sister Sophie's line), BC Footwear, QSW (Quiksilver's higher-end women's collection) and Seychelles Footwear.

Oh my.

Seychelles' offerings for the fall season are on par with what Sam Edelman used to be, before the Edelman's prices went up (I do love the SE brand, though).

A lot of new Seychelles styles would certainly catch the eyes of a discerning fashion set, whereas before, I don't think they would. There were platforms, more architectural heels, wedges and more pleasing color ways and patterns.

She sells Seychelles by the sea shore.

I'm Lovin' it: Think I might be inheriting an SLR camera from Jenks. Happy dance! Click click click.

I'm Over it: Oh, spare car keys...where are thou?!

Track of the Day: Last night, Farrzy spent 10pm-10:45pm convincing me to get off my laurels for a dance party at Fortune. I finally—and begrudgingly—obliged at 11:15pm, whipping to Chinatown in a cab.

I was home but 12:45am, but not without running into my girl MDLC and having an outro dance with her to Trevor Fleming playing this Remix Artist Collective mix of Tokyo Police Club's "Wait Up" in FSC's Lifetime Collective room.

Font Love.

Renee Labbe, an old boss of mine who is now the Senior VP of Global Trends at Stylesight, got me into really loving fonts.

I remember her showing me the opening credits to a few films, solely for the typography and how it was animated and how it was visually presented.

Since then, I've found my eye always wandering to and lingering on all things typographical.

It's really quite fascinating how fonts, typefaces and the like can stir up certain emotions in you, or how they can speak to an era in history.

There was something just so simple and endearing about the typewriter font spelling out "thank you" on the CD pictured below.

They say a picture is worth 1,000 words. Perhaps it's the same with font.

Or perhaps I just think that because I'm a writer.

Empire State of Mind.

Stunning timelapse video of New York, New York. By Josh Owens.

Pogo Remixes The World.

I blogged about the immensely talented Pogo, aka Nick Bertke, awhile back because of his 'Wishery' track, which took scenes, sounds and vocals from Disney's Snow White.

He's now working on a worldwide project, in which he's mixing the sights, sounds and people of places around the world into a series of tracks.

It's an amazing project, and I can't wait to see the result.

Two Peas, One Pod.

Just snagged this photo off The Book of Face of my two buddies Farrzy (left) and Dubs (right), taken over the holidays.

Can you say two peas in a pod?!

They're probably going to kill me for putting this up, but you can't avoid the awesomeness that is Farrzy's vintage Pendleton coat and Dubs' reindeer-and-fir-tree cowichan.

Even Dubs' plaid matches Farrzy's Pendleton colors.

And yes, they're straight.

Dance, dance, dance.

Before the holidays, I went to the re-opening of a cute local boutique that moved from one neighbourhood to another.

I was quite fascinated with the store's Grey Gardens-inspired mannequin display, mainly because I hadn't yet seen the Drew Barrymore/Jessica Lange film nor the 1975 documentary on the notorious, reclusive Bouvier mother-daughter duo.

A little online research yielded many images of fictional and real-life Big and Little Edies, plus a New York Times article with a slideshow of the house in its dilapidated glory.

How utterly compelling and sad, this true tale of two Edies, but how I do love this image of a scrappy, handmade poster found in the house, scrawled with "The Great Dancer Little Edie Bouvier Neale".

The words are like a tiny wash of color buried beneath all those shades of grey.

I'm Lovin' it: My girl Bernie C. sent out this very cute card over the holidays. It still makes me smile.

I'm Over it: Is it me, or are the models' mouths all open on the Revolve Clothing homepage? A new look for 2011, perhaps? Er, no thanks.

Track of the Day: Speaking of dance, dance, dance, I kind of like this U-Tern remix of Britney Spears' "If You Seek Amy".

Happy New Year! It's 2011.

I recently did a Sweetspot city editor post on some city-centric New Year's resolutions, as opposed to me-centric ones like the year before.

In the post, I talked about how I always seem to be debating with friends, just before New Year's Day comes, on the merits of writing resolutions. Half my pals think it's hogwash, the other half thinks it's good for the mind and soul.

I, for the record, agree with the latter. Resolutions and I are quite good friends, and we enjoy each other's company at the beginning of each 365 day round.

People tend to prattle off the usual, like losing weight, reading more, drinking less. This year, my good friend @vlitwin gave me his resolutions in themes instead of points, a refreshing and succinct way of looking at them.

He had three: Reset. Joy. Attention.

This exchange, of course, got me thinking of mine in themes, and I've decided on a few: Activation. Follow Through. Fulfillment. Charity. Journey.

And that's what's so beautiful about a brand new year, that chance to rethink (or add more) themes to your life. Never is a second of your existence the same as the last or will it be the same as the next. I suppose that's why they tell you to make each moment count.

To everyone out there, here's to amazing year of new themes and precious moments.

And to making every second count, of course.

Besos,
Haute Hippie
